In 1957, married women were finally considered “ commercially competent" in the eyes of Dutch law. From this moment on, women were finally allowed to open their own bank account, work while married and take out their own insurance policies.
To house workers, unmarried women, the purple building in this illustration was built. To honour this important milestone in Dutch feminist history, I have chosen to draw these women and the work they did.
